COMING UP!
This coming week we have a lot going on in our classroom!

Monday: Art Discovery

Tuesday: Early Release at 1:15 for Parent Teacher Conferences

Wednesday: Early Release at 1:15 for Teacher Inservice

Thursday: Early Release at 1:15 for Parent Teacher Conferences

Friday: We will be making our Salt/Flour maps of Washington State from 10:30-12:00 or so.  Would any parents like to come in to help?  It would be great to have some extra sets of hands.  Early Release at 1:15 for Parent Teacher Inservice

The Book Fair will be going on Wed, Thurs, and Fri.  Come check it out!  Proceeds go toward supporting our school.

October 31st: Our class will have a Harvest celebration from 2:45-3:30.  We will have a caramel apple party.  Students should bring an apple that's cut into slices in a zippy bag.  The kids will build their own caramel apple dessert.  Kids will put their apple in a bowl, pour a little caramel on top, and then choose three toppings to put on top.  This week the kids will sign up to bring a topping for the celebration so families have about a week to get the topping.

BOOK REPORTS:  Please check in with your child about the progress they are making on their book report.  Book reports are due Nov. 7th.  The book report includes a story map poster, a mystery box (shoebox) with 5 to 7 objects that represent or play an important role in the story, and a presentation of the poster and objects the week of Nov. 7th.  Students can use their book report for the High Five Book Club in our class, as well.  All they need to do to get credit for the High Five Book Club is to write a summary of their book report book and turn it in to me.

HIGH FIVE BOOK CLUB: This trimester students are supposed to be reading in chapter books at their level.  Once they finish their book, they are to write a summary and turn it into me.  Students receive one star-shaped punch in their High Five Book Club card for each 100 pages they read.  I round the number of pages in the book they read to the nearest 100 to determine how many punches to give the student.  The goal is to get 5 punches by the end of the trimester.  Check in with your child to see where they are with this goal and of course, if you have questions, let me know.

READING BUDDIES STARTING SOON!  We will be starting reading buddies with Mrs. Hockett's first grade class in the month of November.  Your child will read with a younger reader once a week on Wednesdays to practice and build their reading fluency.
