This week we investigated "mock" rocks (made of sand, salt, gravel, pebbles, flour, food coloring, and oyster shells) to learn about rocks and minerals. We took the mock rocks and broke them down with a hammer and pick (our classroom version was a block and a nail) to the smallest particles. We then took the dust and mixed it in water. We are waiting for the water to evaporate. We will then look closely at the crystals to see which other minerals (that can't be seen with the human eye) are part of the mock rock.
